LEVI STRAUSS FOUNDATION
Funder

Levi Strauss Foundation (LSF) is a long-time supporter of ACHIEVE. LSF has provided a general support for policy change, advocacy and legal aid on HIV and AIDS in the Philippines. Since 2011, ACHIEVE set up aid4AIDS, a network of alternative law groups that provided free legal assistance to people who experienced discrimination to their HIV status or perceived HIV status and built the capacity of the staff in providing paralegal services to PLHIV. The current round of LSF support, enabled ACHIEVE to retain a law group that provide the client with direct legal services including provision of advice, drafting of demand letters, notices, affidavit, initial complaint and access to modes of alternative dispute resolution and quasi-judicial remedies in government agencies.

After the passage of RA 11166 or the Philippines HIV and AIDS Policy Act, ACHIEVE as a CSO representative to the Philippine National AIDS Council (PNAC), actively participates in ensuring policies, guidelines and protocols are aligned with the said law, the 6th AIDS Medium Term Plan and other related policies. ACHIEVE is also a member of the Philippine Migrant Health network (PMHN) and is a co-chair of the Policy and Research TWG of the said network and ensures that issues among OFWs living with HIV are raised and discussed. Aside from membership to multi-sectoral networks, ACHIEVE also helps local governments in providing technical assistance to enhance their HIV ordinances and provide redress to discriminated PLHIV in their areas.
After serving as the secretariat since the creation of Network to Stop AIDS – Philippines (NSAP), ACHIEVE currently serves as a co-convenor of the said network. With support from LSF, NSAP led in the amendment of the old Philippine AIDS law.
Aside from the involvement of the positive community in evaluating, planning ang implementation of the organization’s programs and activities, ACHIEVE ensures engagement of the positive community by providing them a space to learn, teach, and plan. The community plans and proposes topics and methods in conducting a monthly Learning Groups Session (LGS). Some of the topics discussed are harm, reduction, violence against women and their children and mental health. In 2020, due to the national lockdown, community members participated in a series of art therapy with a psychologist to help them cope with mental stress that resulted from the pandemic.
